By the end of 1975, the Dutch Parliament passed the law for the university to gain educational funds and encourage more academic degrees. And soon in 1976, in the year of its official establishment, it received political support and flourished in terms of funds and academic scopes. Maastricht University offers an array of faculties. The faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences is with tentatively 1,950 students and 1,200 staff members. The wide array of disciplines offered here make it unique in the entire European continent.
The faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience has around 1,500 students and 250 staff members. The Psychology bachelor's programmes in this faculty are offered in both English and Dutch. The psychology department specializes in cognitive psychology and biological psychology. The neuroscience department specializes in cognitive neuroscience, fundamental neuroscience, neuropsychology, drug development and neuro health, neuroeconomics, and psychopathology. The School of Business and Economics has 4200 students, more than 60% of whom are international. This faculty has the most number of students in UM.
Moreover, the university has some other spectacular features like small tutorial groups that help each student participate actively and the teachers to know every student by their first name and be more accessible. Nearly 53% of the students and 40% of staff members are from abroad, which enhances the learning activities, knowledge, and cultural experiences. The university works on innovatively developing their programmes to help students have a fun learning experience. It is situated in the heart of Europe and is accessible from major cities and airports for easy transportation purposes.

- There are a range of furnished student apartments in Maastricht for both long-term and short-term stays in the city, particularly concentrated around the city centre and surrounding areas such as Bassin and Wyck
