Program Description

Education MA York St John University at is a flexible 2 year, part time course taught through a blended approach of online and face-to-face learning. All of the face-to-face taught sessions are delivered over designated weekends.This offers student the opportunity to study alongside work and other commitments. There is also a fast-track route for those who have a recent PGCE or an older PGCE and national leadership qualification. This means student can gain an MA after 16 months of part time study.Students will explore the links between theory, policy and practice in education, examining these links at a local, national and global level and will gain experience in carrying out independent research and develop transferable skills, including:
  • The confidence to question established practice
  • Communicating to a range of audiences
  • Learning how to give critical responses in a professional environment.
Students will work alongside our team of academics who have expertise in social justice and education. Research specialties include:
  • Critical pedagogies
  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Governance and leadership

  • Research methodologies
  • Social justice and education.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Entry onto this Master’s Degree requires a minimum of a 2:1 Undergraduate honors degree in a related discipline from a UK or NARIC listed institution.
  • If a student’s honours degree does not meet the above requirement but can demonstrate extensive professional experience in the subject then their application will be considered.
Fast-track routeIf applicant have either of the following he/she will be eligible to apply for the fast-track route:
  • A recent PGCE, gained within the last 5 years
  • An older PGCE and a recent national leadership qualification (NPQML, NPQSL, NPQHT) gained within the last 5 years
Indian Eligibility:Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • International students need to demonstrate experience, or qualifications equivalent to those listed above.
Work Experience:
  • Required in related discipline
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL iBT (home edition also accepted) or any equivalent test to get admission to this program
