Program Description

  • The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems - Applications Specialist is a 10-month program at Fleming College.
  • The program gives technical expertise to produce effective and useful plans and project reports through the applied use of technology.
  • Students will use current, high-end technology tools to collect, store, manipulate, analyze, interpret, and communicate geographic information within a variety of disciplines.
  • In this program students will learn the following topics:
    • GIS Database Principles
    • Geovisualization
    • Problem Solving and Programming
    • Remote Sensing and Image Analysis
    • Customization of GIS Applications
  • The course is focused on giving students real-world experience with an outside organization and frequently leads to employment opportunities. 
  • Students will work on the collaborative project during the final four months of the program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility: 
  • Students must have a university degree or college diploma in a related field or equivalent.
  • It is recommended that students must be familiar with computers and have skills that include: introductory level statistics, or finite mathematics, database, and computer programming experience.
Language Requirments:
  • Students whose official language is not English are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS Scores.
