Program Description

  • Diploma in Computer Programmer at Georgian College is offered as 2 years (4 semesters) program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on both a full-time basis only.
  • In this program, students focus on computer programming, web development, and designing data-driven systems.
  • Students learn how to write code in a variety of programming languages such as Arduino, ASP.NET, C#, Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, PHP, and Swift.
  • The requirements of the programs are:
    • 16 Program Courses
    • 1 Program Course selected from Group 1
    • 1 Program Course selected from Group 2
    • 2 Communications Courses
    • 1 Program Option Course
    • 3 General Education Courses
    • 2 Co-op Work Terms
  • Students gain experience developing software for diverse platforms including embedded systems, desktop, mobile, and mainframe systems.
  • With a strong emphasis on business and entrepreneurial values, students gain experience in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and system building through a series of applied assignments, projects, and co-op work terms.
  • To graduate from this program, the passing weighted average for promotion through each semester, from year to year, and to graduate is 60%.
  • Students are requested to register, attend and participate in their scheduled co-operative education classes.
  • These classes are scheduled for all first-year students and are expected to be completed in order for students to proceed successfully to their first co-op work experiences.
  • To be successful in this program, students are required to have a personal notebook computer (either PC or Mac architecture) prior to the start of the program that meets or exceeds the following hardware specifications:
    • Intel i5 processor or AMD equivalent
    • 8GB of memory (16 GB recommended)
    • 250GB hard drive (SSD recommended)
  • Students need additional things such as operating systems, tools, and software used in the program are provided to the student upon commencement of the program.
  • Computer programmer graduates may be employed in related fields including systems analysis, business analysis, database design and management, computer operations, web development, and mobile application development.
  • The average salary goes up to 42,000 USD after completion of the program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students have to complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with
    • Grade 12 English (C or U)
    • any Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U)
  • Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school students may also be considered for admission.
  • Students who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing also get admission to this program.
Indian Student Eligibility:Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate
  • Diploma / Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
