Program Description
- The Master of Arts (M.A) in Education at the University of California is a 1-year program.
- It is an on-campus, thesis-based program offered on a full-time basis.
- The Graduate School of Education offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master's of Arts (MA), and credential degree programs.
- The MA degree serves the interest of students who want to carve out a career in education, either as an education researcher or as an education practitioner.
- Students get two plans requirements to complete the program:
- Plan 1: 20 units and a thesis, including at least eight units in 200 series education courses.
- Plan 2: 24 units and a comprehensive examination, including at least 12 units in 200 series education courses.
- The renowned faculty engage students in theoretical and practical studies, providing opportunities to develop interdisciplinary scholarship, as well as to participate in field studies, and explore cutting-edge research.
- Students can also do some additional program such as:
- Science and Mathematics Education
- Sport and Education
- Psychology
- Special Education (Joint Doctoral Program with SF State University).
- The department provides labs and research centers facilities such as Berkeley Evaluation and Assessment Research (BEAR) Center and Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE).

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:- Students must complete a bachelor's degree or the recognized equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Students hold a satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale.
- Students have enough undergraduate training to do graduate work in their chosen field.
- The submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program.
- All students from countries or political entities in which the official language is not English are required to submit official evidence of English language proficiency.
- This applies to students from Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Latin America, the Middle East, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, most European countries, and Quebec (Canada).
