Program Description
- The Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Bio engineering at the University of California is a 1-year program.
- It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
- The Department of Bioengineering offers a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Bioengineering, PhD in Bioengineering, and a Master of Translational Medicine (MTM).
- The Master of Engineering (MEng) program combines a breadth of topics in business and engineering management, applying them to a depth of study in technical concentration.
- Students earning this degree will choose a track (concentration) of coursework in one of these seven fields:
- Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
- Biomedical Engineering Design
- Biomedical Imaging
- Biomaterials and Devices
- General Bioengineering and Entrepreneurship
- Mechanobiology
- Synthetic Biology
- The department consists of 23 core faculty, 8 joint, 4 adjunct, 6 emeritus, and 3 lecturers.
- The MEng degree requires at least 25 total units of credit, a comprehensive exam, and a capstone report/presentation.
- The Bioengineering Final Capstone presentation will take place late in the Spring semester and will consist of a 20-minute minimum presentation on the Capstone project.
- If a student fails the presentation requirement, they will be given the option to give the presentation again the following Fall semester.
- Failure to pass the exam on this third attempt will constitute a failure of the comprehensive exam requirement for the MEng degree.
- The UC Berkeley ranks 4th in the Bio Engineering graduate program according to US News and World Report.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:- Students must complete a bachelor's degree or the recognized equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Students hold a satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale.
- Students have enough undergraduate training to do graduate work in their chosen field.
- The submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program.
- All students from countries or political entities in which the official language is not English are required to submit official evidence of English language proficiency.
- This applies to students from Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Latin America, the Middle East, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, most European countries, and Quebec (Canada).
