  • Certificate in Accounting at York University is offered as a 1-year professional degree program.

  • The certificate is designed specifically for students with non-accounting degrees who can obtain all the necessary credits in the shortest timeframe to meet the certification requirements of the accounting profession in Canada.
  • It enables students to fulfill the Institute of Chartered Accountant’s 51 credit-hour requirements in the CA education program.
  • Students gain specialized training in the accounting field including:
    • financial and management accounting;
    • financial statement reporting;
    • personal and corporate income taxation; and
    • advanced financial applications.
  • In this program, students must have successfully completed a 4U math (or equivalent) course within the last five years prior to starting the core certificate requirements.
  • This certificate is open to the following students:
    • current York students, or 
    • new applicants to York.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • As a student of Ontario high school, students must have to complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) degree.
  • Students also have to complete the following courses such as:
    • English (ENG4U)
    • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
    • And four additional 4U or M courses - recommendation(s) below:
      • MCV4U
  • To gain admission to this program, the student’s academic average should be in the mid-70s.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
