Program Description

  • Master of Arts in Psychology at York University is offered as a 2-year teaching program.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program offered on a full-time basis only.
  • The graduate program in Psychology is one of the largest and most diverse in Canada.
  • The program has seven different areas of specialization:
    • Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science
    • Developmental Science
    • History and Theory
    • Quantitative Methods
    • Social and Personality
    • Clinical
    • Clinical-Developmental. 
  • The program boasts more than 90 faculty studying an impressively diverse range of topics.
  • Some students and professors are associated with specialized cross-disciplinary research units such as the renowned Centre for Vision Research, the LaMarsh Centre for Child and Youth Research, and the Centre for Aging Research and Education.
  • University is also the only Canadian university with CPA-accredited clinical programs in both Clinical (adult) and Clinical-Developmental, as well as a Clinical Neuropsychology stream.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have a 4-year undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
  • A GPA of at least 3.33 (B+ grade) out of 4.33 in the last two years of study is required to be eligible for the program.
Indian Student Eligibility: 

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a 3-year UG degree from an accredited institution.
Submission of GRE scores is compulsory for this program, however, it is recommended to submit a minimum 300+ score for a better chance of admission. Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
