Program Description

  • Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at York University is offered as a 4-year teaching program.
  • It is an on-campus, honours course offered on a full-time basis.
  • The program’s interdisciplinary approach is reflected in complementary relationships with a number of other academic disciplines including anthropology, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, socio-legal studies, and sociology.
  • Students are able to choose courses from these disciplines as well as from the core program courses, each of which draws from a range of disciplines and is devoted to making connections between different areas of study.
  • The Criminology program will focus on the analysis of:
    • crime
    • criminality
    • processes of criminalization and social control
    • organized crime
    • systems of justice
    • criminal justice systems
  • The Criminology program will provide students with an exceptional opportunity to pursue study in this evolving and expanding field.
  • In 1st and 2nd year courses, students will introduce the fundamentals of criminology including criminological theories, the criminal justice system, and criminological research methods.
  • At the 3rd and 4th year level, students will be able to choose from a range of different course options depending on their interests.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  •  Students must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) degree.
  •  Students must have to complete the following course such as:
    • English (ENG4U)
    • Five additional 4U or M courses
    • 4U math
  • To gain admission to this program, the student's academic average should be in the low-80s.
Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate
  • Students also have to complete the Grade XII math course.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
