Program Description

  • Bachelor of Arts in Actuarial Science at York University is offered as a 3-year teaching program.
  • It is an on-campus, honors program offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.
  • The Actuarial Science program offers a variety of degree options, including an Honours BA and a Specialized Honours BA.
  • The BA program provides students with the necessary mathematical and statistical skills, techniques, and confidence to succeed in a very demanding business world.
  • Actuarial Science is a collection of courses spanning such areas as mathematical analysis, probability theory, statistics, actuarial science, finance, and economics.
  • It has been specifically designed for students striving to attain the Associate designation of the Society of Actuaries. Examples of activities in which graduates of Actuarial Science may be involved are project management, inventory control, forecasting, etc.
  • The 1st year courses include:

    • Computing for Math and Statistics

  • An actuary is a profession concerned with the design and administration of insurance policies, pension plans, government welfare plans, and similar programs.
  • Actuarial Science at York will take place in energetic classes and tutorials, taught by fifty full-time faculty members.
  • A strong academic support system includes the Math and Statistics Tutorial Labs and the Peer Study Group program to bolster students' mathematical understanding and confidence.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) degree.
  • Students must have to complete six 4U or 4M courses, including
    • English (ENG4U)
    • Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
    • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U recommended).
Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:
  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate
  • Students also have to complete the Grade XII math course.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
