Program Description
- MSc in Geography at the University of Victoria is offered as a 2-years program by the Department of Geography.
- The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
- Students will work on important issues affecting society today, like conservation and the changing climate’s effect on human systems.
- UVic’s location on Vancouver Island gives students easy access to marine and alpine ecosystems, freshwater wetlands, rivers, lakes, and a temperate rainforest for fieldwork.
- This degree is research-focused (i.e., thesis or dissertation option) and is supplemented by nominal coursework designed to build knowledge and enhance research- and career-related skills.
- The program involves students in coursework and research proposal development in year one, followed by independent research pursuits and thesis writing in year two.
- The MSc program consists of a minimum of 19 units.

Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an undergraduate degree in geography or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- A grade point average of 6.0/9.0 (B+ average) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
- Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in geography or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
