Program Description

  • Master of Fine Arts at the University of Victoria is offered as a 2-years program by the Department of Visual Arts.
  • The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
  • This program prepares students to be professional artists. We focus on both traditional and experimental expressions.
  • The MFA program is primarily centered on drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital multimedia.
  • First-year MFA students will present a faculty-evaluated exhibition to determine the advisability of continuing in the second year, and you will be expected to mount a solo exhibition at the end of your second year.
  • Students will be able to explore your art and push the edges of their creativity.
  • The MFA program consists of a minimum of 33 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 5.0/9.0 (B average) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Indian Student Eligibility:
  • Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in Fine Arts or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
