Program Description

  • MSc in Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria is offered as a 2-years program by the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.
  • The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
  • In this program, students will receive a unique education that takes them out on field trips, field schools, and marine cruises.
  • Students will also have the opportunity to study with faculty from the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis and the nearby Institute of Ocean Sciences and Geological Survey of Canada (Pacific).
  • The research in Earth and ocean sciences is designed to offer a broad spectrum of skills and focuses.
  • Students can study integrated multidisciplinary programs in geology, geophysics, oceanography, and atmosphere and climate sciences.
  • The MSc program consists of a minimum of 15 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have an undergraduate degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 6.0/9.0 (B+) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Indian Student Eligibility:
  • Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
