Program Description
- MA in Anthropology at the University of Victoria is offered as a 2-years program by the Department of Anthropology.
- The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
- The Master of Arts degree in Anthropology combines coursework in methodology and themes that integrate anthropology's subfields with research experience.
- This program offers students breadth in relation to our department’s integrative research themes while grounding students in the research methods of their primary subfield (archaeological, biological, or cultural anthropology).
- The MA program introduces students to our department's unique thematic foci and requires them to conduct a major, independent research project leading to a thesis.
- As a discipline that transcends conventional academic boundaries between the sciences and the humanities, students will find courses that connect with their interests and expand horizons, along with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning and ongoing research in our department.
- The MA program consists of a minimum of 15 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an undergraduate degree in Anthropology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- A grade point average of 6.0/9.0 (B+) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
- Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in Anthropology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
