Program Description

  • Master of Law [L.L.M] at the University of Victoria is offered as a 1-year program by the Faculty of Law.
  • The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
  • This program focuses on a wide range of interdisciplinary subjects that emphasize a law-and-society approach.
  • The law and society approach is deeply interdisciplinary, which means that each student's committee would include one supervisor from outside of the law faculty.
  • Students will gain a broad understanding of Canadian, international, and comparative dimensions of law.
  • The LLM program consists of a minimum of 15 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have an undergraduate degree in Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 5.0/9.0 (B or equivalent) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Indian Student Eligibility:
  • Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
