Program Description

  • MSc in Neuroscience at the University of Victoria is offered as a 2-years program by the Division of Medical Sciences.
  • The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
  • The neuroscience graduate program focuses on cellular and cognitive neurosciences, reflecting UVic's two major neuroscience research streams.
  • The program emphasizes connections between the core areas in neuroscience: learning and memory, synaptic function, developmental neuroscience, sensory-motor systems, and disease and injury and encourages students to develop competencies in more than one area.
  • The multi-disciplinary approach of the program reflects the future of neuroscience research and allows students to develop diverse skills and engage in collaborative work both across the campus and in the community.
  • The MSc is a full-time research degree with a thesis requirement and coursework. 
  • The MSc program consists of a minimum of 15 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have an undergraduate degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, mathematics, pharmacology, physics, physiology, psychology, and zoology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 5.0/9.0 (B or equivalent) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Indian Student Eligibility:
  • Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, mathematics, pharmacology, physics, physiology, psychology, and zoology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
