Program Description
- Master of Science (M.Sc) - Health Informatics at the University of Victoria is offered by the School of Health Information Science.
- The MSc in Health Informatics has a maximum 5-year time limit.
- The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
- The MSc degree in Health Informatics requires a minimum of 16.5 units of coursework, including a research project or thesis.
- Students will learn to identify what information and data are needed and make effective healthcare decisions by doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, government planners, and other health care professionals.
- Health information science (also known as health informatics) is the study of:
- how health data are collected, stored, and communicated;
- how those data are processed into health information suitable for administrative and clinical decision making; and
- how computer and telecommunications technology can be applied to support these processes.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an undergraduate degree in health informatics, clinical or health science, or information technology from a recognized institution.
- A grade point average of 5.0/9.0 (B or equivalent) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
- Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in health informatics, clinical or health science, or information technology from a recognized institution.
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
