Program Description
- Geoscientists are concerned with the structure, dynamics and processes of the earth-life system. They research the earth's body and surface, the effects of human intervention on the environment and the development of life.
- The practice of geoscientists encompasses issues of great social importance such as exploration and sustainable use of resources (e.g. water, metallic and non-metallic raw materials, oil, natural gas); Research into new and further development of existing materials; Warding off and predicting disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and floods.
- Studies and forecasts on biodiversity and climate development; geochemical analysis of material cycles and their effects on the natural environment; Pollution and remediation studies; as well as satellite-based observation methods for remote sensing.
