Program Description

  • It is an on-campus program offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.
  • Nursing is an intense program intended to challenge students and prepare them as leaders in the current dynamic health care environment.
  • The Master of Nursing program aims to prepare students to:
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge in advanced nursing practice.
    • Engage in reflection, to think critically, and to act with scientific integrity in scholarly endeavors.
    • Facilitate the learning process and participate in activities that influence health and healthcare policy.
    • Understand the interaction of the nursing profession with social, political, economic, and historical forces.
  • Students should complete at least 3 courses per year and take 11 courses (including 1 elective course).
  • All students in the Nursing program have to select one of these routes:
    • Master of Nursing (Thesis-Based)
    • Or, Master of Nursing (Course-Based)
  • The thesis-based route is an opportunity for intensive research education, consist of 10 core courses and a thesis.
  • It provides knowledge about particular content, research method and students work closely with their supervisors to complete the research.
  • The maximum time for completion is 4 years for a thesis-based program and 6 years for the course-based program.
  • Course-based students complete a capping exercise (scholarly project) and are congruent with the student's area of study and may address topics such as clinical outcomes, evidence-based practice, total quality improvement.
  • The university consists of 50 tenure-track faculty members, 42 faculty lecturers, and 97 sessional lecturers.
  • The faculty have won multiple teaching and research awards at the local, provincial and national level, including 3M Teaching Award, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, etc.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must complete a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or the equivalent calculated on the last 2-year of full-time study.
  • One UG course should be in statistics and one in research methods with a final grade of B or higher.
  • Students who want to take entry-to-practice as a Nurse Practitioner should have a UG level Health History and Physical Assessment course with a minimum mark of B. 
  • Students with degrees or qualifications in a language other than English must demonstrate English language proficiency test results.

  • Three Letters of Reference: The online application system will notify the references and allow the student to upload their letters which contain 1 academic and 2 work references.
  • Personal Statement: This is a short statement (approximately one page) that details why the applicant is pursuing graduate studies with this department, their research interests, and why they would be a suitable candidate.
  • Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
