Program Description
There is a growing demand for skilled trade workers in Canada, and Conestoga College is meeting this demand by offering a variety of skilled trades education. This one-year Welding Techniques program covers all the theoretical and practical learning outcomes for Level 1 of both the Welder (456A) and Metal Fabricator – Fitter (437A) apprenticeship programs in Ontario.
As a student in this program, students will have the opportunity to develop welding skills in Conestoga College’s state-of-the-art facility, using modern equipment with the common arc welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or 'stick'), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or 'MIG'), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or 'TIG'). Graduate will be ready for an apprenticeship as a welder or metal fabricator.
Other Requirements
- Grade 12 with minimum 50%. Admission Requirements - Grade 12 compulsory English or equivalent OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications. Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent OR Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics for Trades. Minimum cumulative average (English & Math) 60%. Grade 11 or 12 Physics and/or Technological Design or Conestoga College Preparatory Physics, technical shops/labs, technical drafting, electricity, electronics and basic computer literacy are desirable but not mandatory.
- In case the program has three semesters in a year, annual tuition fee may increase for one additional semester.
