Program Description

This two-year Welding and Fabrication Technician program covers all the theoretical and practical learning outcomes for Level 1 and 2 of both the Metal Fabricator – Fitter (437A) and the Welder (456A) apprenticeship programs in Ontario.
Students will learn to follow metal fabrication projects from the computer-aided engineering drawing (CAD) stage, through to the cutting and forming processes of piece parts, to the fitting, welding, and inspection of fabrications. They will use conventional, and computer numerical controlled (CNC) fabrication equipment programmed using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
Students also will develop welding skills that are in high demand with employers, in Conestoga College's state-of-the-art facility, using modern equipment including skills related to the common arc welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG).


Other Requirements

  • Grade 12 with minimum 50%. Admission Requirements - Grade 12 compulsory English or equivalent OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications. Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent OR Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics for Trades. Minimum cumulative average (English & Math) 60%. Grade 11 or 12 Physics or Conestoga College Preparatory Physics, technical shops/labs, technical drafting, electricity, electronics are desirable but not mandatory. A sound mathematical and English background is important for success in this program and is considered during the admission selection process. Program requirements - Applicants are required to have basic computer literacy.
  • In case the program has three semesters in a year, annual tuition fee may increase for one additional semester.
