Program Description

This Mechanical Engineering Technology - Automated Manufacturing diploma program provides students with a broad exposure to the mechanical engineering technology field and prepares them for a career in today’s automated manufacturing setting. Emphasis is placed on the modern industrial production environment, which calls for knowledge of manufacturing procedures and design, computer aided manufacturing and industrial robotics. Students learn the role of computer integration in connecting manufacturing and design functions.
This program can lead to exciting careers in several areas including, but not limited to, additive manufacturing, manufacturing and robotics systems, 3D CAD, programming numerical controlled machines, industry 4.0, and industrial engineering. Through both individual and group projects, students can apply and refine their problem-solving and communication skills as they engage in and solve real-world automated manufacturing problems.
The program also emphasizes the combination of standard manufacturing processes with computer-aided manufacturing and the utilization of industrial automation equipment in a production environment. Today's effective technologist is also a skilled communicator, and students will learn to communicate technical information at all levels through the use of linguistic, graphic and computerized methods. The optional co-op stream includes three co-op work terms. The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) conditionally recognizes this program as meeting all the academic requirements for certification in the Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) category.
