Program Description

  • St. Lawrence College offers a Diploma in Mechanical Technician for a duration of 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
  • The Mechanical Technician program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career as a Mechanical Technician or as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
  • Upon completion, graduates will receive an Ontario College Diploma as a Mechanical Technician.
  • Students will also have completed the equivalent of all levels of in-school training required for the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship program and are well-prepared to write the exemption exams required for this trade.
  • Completing the in-school training is attractive to employers who may wish to register students in an apprenticeship program.
  • Students are required to purchase the Millwright Manual and the Technology of Machine Tools textbook for use in the majority of the classes.
  • All students are required to purchase a tool kit or supply their own matching tools for use in the labs.
  • St. Lawrence College offers an extensive Student Scholarship and Bursary Program. Scholarships and bursaries for this purpose are sponsored by external organizations and private individuals. 
  • Qualified students may be eligible for special financial support, made possible through a generous gift donated to the St. Lawrence College Foundation, from the Advanced Technology Education Consortium (ATEC). 
  • Graduates of this two-year program will work in a broad range of automated manufacturing facilities.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students have to complete Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including the following prerequisites:
    • Grade 12 English at the C or U level
    • Grade 11 Math at the C, U, or M level.
Indian Student Eligibility:
  • The students must have completed 10th and intermediate i.e 12th grade which has the minimum with 60% marks.
  • The minimum qualification required to attend this program is a higher secondary school certificate.
  • Copies of original documents should be attested by the educational institution.
  • School Record of Diploma/Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study is required.
