Program Description

In this four-semester diploma program, students will learn about the physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs of children. They will understand how to develop and implement inclusive programming in order to support the healthy development of children ranging in age from infancy to school-age.

Student’s studies will include courses in child development, curriculum. philosophy of education, communication, working with families and administration.
Each week students will spend three days in class and two days practicing their skills in field placement. 
As a graduate of this program who meets GPA requirements, students are eligible to pursue internal pathway opportunities at Seneca College, including the Honours Bachelor of Child Development and Honours Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies.
Seneca College offers two lab schools, which are model child care centres that provide students with opportunities for observation and programming.
Throughout this program students will develop the following skills:
  • Design healthy, safe, inclusive and engaging environments for children from infancy to school age. 
  • Plan and implement inclusive programming to support children’s development using current theories.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues and other professionals
