Program Description
Students can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while they promote social well-being and long-lasting change. The skills they learn in this diploma program will help people and communities address social issues.
Students will work with individuals, groups and communities to develop strategies and programs to proactively address social challenges, including poverty, addiction, abuse and mental health issues. This program, with an Indigenous focus, will prepare them with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution.
Students can gain practical skills and knowledge in counselling and interviewing, professional communication and proposal writing while also learning more about Indigenous cultures through hands-on activities and field trips. Through their placements they will explore roles in community health, education and institutional environments.
This program is ideal for students who are committed to addressing social issues, who have effective interpersonal skills, and who understand the importance of meaningful communication with clients and community partners.
Students will work on the front lines of social services for provincial, municipal and private agencies. They will gain experience in community health centers, justice services, long-term care facilities, social service departments, schools, youth centers, outreach services, addiction centers and mental health services.
