Program Description

In the College Certificate - Carpentry and Woodworking program, students will develop the practical skills they need to create excellent work. Students will learn about hand tools, precise measuring and cutting, and how to create what they envision in their mind’s eye.
Students will gain the basic knowledge to build projects from simple shelving to a single family dwelling. Using modern industry tools, they will learn in a well-equipped woodworking shop with an emphasis on practical, applied learning. Geometry rules in this profession, and general mathematics is very important. Students' training will be guided by supportive instructors. They will gain experience working with concrete, finishing cabinets and learning construction safety.
Students can register as an apprentice within two years of completing the program, and they may be granted credit towards Level 1 Carpenter apprenticeship as they continue to gain valuable industry experience.
There are a number of career opportunities for graduates. Students can work in the construction industry on residential or commercial projects. They can earn the skills to do general home repairs, as well as their own woodworking projects.
