Program Description

  • It is an on-campus, 90 credits program offered on a full-time basis.
  • This Master’s course will teach students how to generate and handle big data associated with biological processes and diseases. 
  • The core modules of the program are:
    • Omics
    • Non-coding RNA, gene editing, and in vitro modeling
    • In vivo modeling and use of human material and data
    • A systematic review and grant/PhD proposal
    • Core and professional skills
    • Functional omics research project
  • During the first 4 months, students will acquire theoretical knowledge to mine biomedical data to find interesting genes associated with a particular disease as well as on the experimental tools
  • In order to do so, students will attend lectures, workshops, journal clubs, demonstrations, and practical laboratory sessions.
  • During the 5th month, students will select a biological or medical topic of their choice and prepare a report in the form of either a review or a PhD/grant proposal.
  • During the last 6 months of the MSc course, students will conduct a research project in one of the internationally recognized laboratories at Imperial.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • Students must have a 2.1 degree in chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, or related biomedical science discipline.
  • Students who do not meet the academic requirements but have substantial relevant industry experience may be admitted on the basis of the Special Qualifying Exam (SQE).
Indian Student Eligibility: Indian students are eligible to apply if they complete one of the following eligibility criteria:
  • Students should have completed a 3-4 year bachelor's degree from a mainstream university (state/federal or deemed institution) passed with the required grades.
  • Students for research should hold a 3 to 4-year bachelor's degree and master's degree, both passed with required grades.
  • Applicants from elite institutions will be required to obtain a minimum overall average of 7 / 10 or 60%. These are the College minimum scores and particular departments may seek grades at a higher level.
  • Applicants from other approved institutions will be required to obtain a minimum overall average ranging from 7.5-8 / 10 or 65-70%.
