Program Description
The Creative Industries program gives students a deep understanding of how media, fashion, publishing, news, music, design and performing arts organizations operate creatively and commercially. The curriculum explores the nature of creativity and business management in cultural and creative sectors, providing students with a dynamic education - and preparing them for a wide range of careers upon graduation.
Core courses develop each student's competencies in communication, digital technology, critical thinking, research design, collaboration and teamwork while informing them about the economic, legal, political and technological environment in which Canadian and international creative enterprises function. As they proceed through the program, they select two Creative-Content Modules which offer students exposure to creative fields, including film, television, live performance, music, publishing, news media and fashion. Students will learn about the historical, artistic and production aspects of these fields while examining how they function as businesses, both domestically and globally. At the same time, students undertake a business specialization that provides them with the business, management and entrepreneurial skills vital to their future career. The interdisciplinary design of the program and the broad range of elective choice give them the flexibility to shape their studies to fit their personal interests and aspirations. Extra Notes
