Program Description
As a Personal Support Worker, you are a skilled and compassionate healthcare provider who assists clients with physical and psychosocial challenges during all life stages.
- Unique interprofessional education course designed to strengthen collaboration skills as a member of the healthcare team.
- 42 hours of hands-on experience in Niagara College’s state-of-the-art lab facilities and 266 hours of clinical placement in both long-term care and community settings.
- Graduate with 2 additional certificates:
- Managing Food Safety certificate, offering unique culinary curriculum focused on food preparation; and
- Gentle Persuasive Approach certificate focused on caring for individuals with dementia and other cognitive diseases.
- Niagara College graduates of this program, or students currently enrolled in their last level, have the opportunity to bridge into term two of NC's Practical Nursing diploma program. This application is open to domestic students only. See – Pathways tab for more information.
Other Requirements
- Grade 12 with 50% and above.
- Niagara College does not accept students from Open schooling and Distance Education System. Education Gap:Student completed most recent studies within 5 years from start of the program (Example: if the program begins in 2018, applicants must have completed their last program of study no earlier than 2013 Student does not have more than 9 backlogs in university study. State Secondary School Board All required courses = 55% required & 10 + 2 English = 65% required. State Technical Education Board All required courses = 65% required, 10 + 2 English = 70% requied.
