Program Description

Mechanical Engineering Technicians’ responsibilities often include setting up and programming automation equipment; preparing and presenting technical reports and drawings; using precision instruments for inspection and testing; planning, implementing; and evaluating quality assurance procedures. Our program features face-to-face learning from industry professionals to give you the career skills that top employers need right now.
  • Extensive hands-on labs with current industrial equipment.
  • Industrial automation including robots, CNC machining and PLC programming.
  • 3D modelling and prototyping with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Manufacturing processes including machining, metal forming, hydraulics, pneumatics,
    lean manufacturing, and others.
  • Quality inspection and analysis of data.
  • Graduates are eligible for the Certified Technician (C.Tech.) designation with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
  • Graduates are employed in many fields including automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, manufacturing, testing and more.
  • Graduates may enter the workforce directly or enter NC's Mechanical Engineering Technology (Co-op) program with advanced standing after completing bridging courses.

Other Requirements

  • Grade 12 with 50% and above. Math required. Recommended Courses : Manufacturing Engineering Technology – Grade 11 or Grade 12, Physics – Grade 11 or Grade 12, Technological Design – Grade 11 or Grade 12
  • Niagara College does not accept students from Open schooling and Distance Education System. Education Gap:Student completed most recent studies within 5 years from start of the program (Example: if the program begins in 2018, applicants must have completed their last program of study no earlier than 2013 Student does not have more than 9 backlogs in university study. State Secondary School Board All required courses = 55% required & 10 + 2 English = 65% required. State Technical Education Board All required courses = 65% required, 10 + 2 English = 70% requied.
