Program Description

Our MSc Geoscience Research aims to provides you with the opportunity to acquire advanced subject knowledge, understanding and skills across a broad range of disciplines within the Geosciences with a focus on sustainability and data science. 
Throughout the programme you will be supported in the development of these skills through taught group sessions, traineeships, applied projects, and one-to-one discussions with your dissertation project supervisors.
To establish relationships/methods for your dissertation or consolidate the outcomes of that work, you will have the opportunity to complete a Traineeship or Collaborative Project module before or after your Dissertation.
On successful completion of the programme you will be able to;
  • Demonstrate advanced Geoscience knowledge and develop a critical awareness of current problems (informed by debates in sustainability)
  • Critically evaluate current research and demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge
  • Evaluate methodologies and develop critiques of them
  • Develop a structured approach to the design and management of projects including consideration of ethics, grant application and project planning
  • Demonstrate a high level of scientific skills and knowledge in a UK-based or international workplace setting
  • Communicate scientific findings clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
  • Gain advanced laboratory competencies and analytical skills appropriate to Geoscience through working in a research environment at Keele.

GUEST SPEAKERS
The School of Geography, Geology and the Environment host a variety of events where guest speakers working within Geosciences are invited to give presentations at research group meetings, school meetings, research seminars or society meetings. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet new contacts, establish professional networks and ask career-related questions.
SUPPORT
Throughout the programme you will have access to a robust support structure including a programme director, module leader, academic mentor, independent advisor and individual project supervisors. All students are entitled and encouraged to make use of all of the central university services, including Keele's Student Experience and Support team and Postgraduate Association.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants should have an honours degree in Geology, Geoscience, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or hold an equivalent qualification. The minimum degree category for entry is 2:2 (or international equivalent). Students who can evidence alternative professional qualifications and/or relevant experience/training will also be considered.
  • For IELTS Waiver : CISCE/CBSE Class XII: 70% or above. All other State Boards Class XII (except Punjab or Mohali School Education Board): 75% or above in English, depending on course.Study should be taught in English. Otherwise IELTS is required.
