Our Early Years course prepares you to become a knowledgeable, research-informed and conscientious educational professional working with young learners.On this course you will:
  • be introduced to historical and contemporary constructions of childhood, investigate theories of child development and develop an underpinning knowledge of play-based approaches
  • examine different theoretical and practice-based perspectives such as learning through play and the relationship between attachment behaviours and brain development
  • consider the different domains of learning and development, including personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, physical development and literacy skills
  • have the opportunity to think about the characteristics of effective learning and the ways in which they support children to flourish and become lifelong learners.
Additionally, you will gain valuable experience through placement opportunities whilst applying academic learning to practice. In the final year, you will have the opportunity to carry out primary research which can lead to published work.A multi-disciplinary and experienced academic team who will support you throughout to reach your full potential and consider successful careers in education, health and social care.This course is guided by current policy and legislation including the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2012), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). University of West London is a member of the  Early Childhood Studies Degrees Network (ECSDN).

Other Requirements

  • Indian Standard 12/HSC (minimum average of 60% depending on exam board)
  • IELTS Waiver is not possible for students who have completed their Std XII from Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat Boards.
