Program Description

The BSc (Hons) Chemistry with Education will provide you with both the extensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in chemistry and professional skills through work-based learning to ensure you are fully equipped to meet the demands of being a Chemistry teacher in secondary (high) school.The overall aim of the course is to allow you to develop the knowledge and skills required to teach Chemistry at Secondary School level. You will study Chemistry to Honours level, and will also develop your teaching skills in years 3 and 4 by taking modules in Education.On successful completion of the course you will have met the Standard for Provisional Registration, and thus be eligible to apply for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and entry to the Teacher Induction Scheme as a secondary school teacher of Chemistry with Science. Your depth of knowledge across a broad range of topics will support the teaching of senior phase courses up to SQA Advanced Higher (or GCSE A-level) level.

Professional recognition

The BSc (Hons) Chemistry with Education is professionally recognised by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). By successfully completing this course you will meet the Standard for Provisional Registration as a secondary school teacher of chemistry with science. 

Jobs

Graduates receive the formal teaching qualification necessary for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). Graduates from this course are eligible for a one-year paid induction post that enables completion of probation and achievement of the standard required for full registration with the GTCS in a Scottish secondary school.You’ll also have the knowledge and practical skills required for a career in drug research, environmental analysis, forensic science and much more.

Other Requirements

  • Require minimum of 60% or above in 12th Std.
  • 70% in Class XII English and the certificate should be not be more than 8 years old at the time of making the application.No MOI letter would be accepted henceforth.However, please note that students will require an IELTS or equivalent, if applying from the following School Education Boards: 1. Punjab Board,2. Haryana Board,3. Uttar Pradesh (UP) Board or4. Jammu & Kashmir (J & K) Board.
