Range and depth of study options
We offer a very wide range of optional modules, allowing students to specialise in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or theoretical physics. This allows you to build up the required background for the project and dissertation modules, which offer the opportunity to undertake an in-depth study of a topic of your choice, supervised by a leading expert in the field.Exceptional employability
At Liverpool, we listen to employers’ needs. Alongside key problem solving skills, employers require strong communication skills. These are integral to this programme, with project modules accounting for 105 of the 180 credits required for the MSc. Students develop presentation and independent research skills, and learn about computer programming and scientific writing, alongside the core mathematical content of the programme.Teaching quality
We are proud of our record on teaching quality, with many of our MSc modules delivered by world-leading experts. Five members of the Department have received the prestigious Sir Alastair Pilkington Award for Teaching. Our staff use a range of teaching methods, including traditional ‘chalk and talk’ delivery, stream captured lectures using tablets, pencasts and online assessment and feedback. The Mathematics Centre for Enhancement in Education helps staff to develop innovative techniques for teaching mathematics, and a brand new Virtual Learning Environment is expected to go online in 2020.Accessibility
We take students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds and we work hard to give everyone the opportunity to shine.Supportive atmosphere
We provide high quality supervision, teaching and IT support. We care about each student and you will find the staff friendly and approachable. A common room and kitchen are available for the exclusive use of the Department’s students, and a lively maths society helps to foster a friendly and supportive environment.Other Requirements
- Applications are welcome from students who have (or expect to obtain) an Honours degree in Mathematics. The usual minimum requirement for entry is a 2:1 degree classification, but we consider all applications on their individual merits, taking the transcript, references and personal statement into account.
- For IELTS Waive off , you require 70% and above in English in Standard XII for CBSE/CISCE/WB/Karnataka/Maharashtra/TamilNadu/Andhra Pradesh/Kerala/Telangana/Goa/Delhi/Sikkhim/Gujarat/Meghalaya boards..Three-year Bachelor's degrees like BComs can be accepted, but sometimes the content covered in such degrees does not provide adequate grounding for our more specialised programmes such as MSc Finance. We also accept, as evidence of English language skills, an undergraduate degree from one of the following Indian universities (including affiliated colleges): Anna University Mumbai University Pune University Bangalore University University of Delhi University of Madras Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT)
