Program Description

The English Literature: Science Fiction Studies MA provides you with a range of options in the academic study of science fiction, as genre and cultural mode. 
Building on the University’s strong tradition of science fiction scholarship and teaching, and the fact that we host the largest specialist collection of science fiction materials in Europe, this programme will equip you with knowledge required to understand the role that science fiction plays in society.
Ranging from the Enlightenment to contemporary fiction, and considering areas such as science and technology studies, and how visions of the future are constructed and interpreted, this pathway is both historical and forward-looking.You will situate your reading in appropriate contexts, but also learn to think about what science fiction reveals about perceptions of technology, apocalyptic fears, the changing face of the future, and the relationship between literature and science.Please note: when applying, please choose ‘MA English Literature’ from the list of programmes. You should specify the specific pathway which you wish to study in your personal statement.

Recent conferences include ‘On Liberties’ at Gladstone's Library, and ‘Renaissance Old Worlds’ in collaboration with the British Library. A legacy from former tutor Miriam Allott has allowed the department to host a vibrant series of international poetry readings, and with its Centre for New and International Writing and Literature and Science Hub, the Department of English continues to attract a range of outstanding, international speakers.

Other Requirements

For IELTS Waive off , you require 70% and above in English in Standard XII for CBSE/CISCE/WB/Karnataka/Maharashtra/TamilNadu/Andhra Pradesh/Kerala/Telangana/Goa/Delhi/Sikkhim/Gujarat/Meghalaya boards..Three-year Bachelor's degrees like BComs can be accepted, but sometimes the content covered in such degrees does not provide adequate grounding for our more specialised programmes such as MSc Finance.We also accept, as evidence of English language skills, an undergraduate degree from one of the following Indian universities (including affiliated colleges): Anna University Mumbai University Pune University Bangalore University University of Delhi University of Madras Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT)
